Fabrics explained – what separates good quality fabric from bad quality 🧵🩷
When it comes to underwear and swimwear, not all fabrics are created equal. At Mahéquline, we spend months sourcing the perfect combinations — and it shows in how each piece feels, fits, and lasts. 🌸
So what actually makes a fabric “good quality”? Let’s break it down 👇
💧 UNDERWEAR: Cotton, but better
Cotton is breathable, soft, and timeless. But when it’s 100% cotton, it often lacks stretch and shape retention - and ends up feeling stiff after a few washes.
That’s why we opt for cotton blends, usually:
-
95% cotton, 5% spandex
This mix keeps the underwear soft and breathable while adding just enough elasticity to hug you without losing shape.
We avoid heavy synthetic blends like high-percentage polyester or polyamide, which might look cute at first, but quickly feel plastic-y, trap heat, and fade.
Our cotton underwear? Still soft after 100+ washes. And yes - we tested it, babe!
🌊 SWIMWEAR: Stretch, structure & sustainability
Swimwear has to do more: survive salt, sun, sand, and stretch - and still look amazing.
We use carefully chosen combinations of:
-
Nylon + elastane (usually 80/20) for a sleek, second-skin feel
-
Or recycled blends that still offer colour retention, hold, and buttery texture
🚫 What we avoid:
Cheap swim fabrics with high polyester content - they tend to pill, over-stretch, and fade after a summer. They might feel okay at first but won’t last.
🫦 Why it matters:
A good fabric gives you support without cutting in, shapes without feeling tight, and holds colour even after salty swims and sunscreen spills 🍑
What makes a fabric good?
✅ Feels soft against your skin
✅ Retains shape after washing
✅ Doesn’t pill or fade quickly
✅ Breathable and flexible
✅ Looks as good after 100 wears as it did on day one
We choose fabrics that look beautiful and make you feel gorgeous in your own skin 🌝🩷 Because when it comes to Mahéquline, comfort and quality go hand-in-hand.
